On each day one artist will be announced, staring with the artist ranked in position number 5 on Monday, then working up one position each day, until the top artist is announced on Friday 8 January. Over five days between Monday 4 January and Friday 8 January 2016, the top five artists (from the above fifteen) will be announced on the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show. James Bay performing “Proud Mary” (written by John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival) …īBC Music – Sound Of 2016 – The Long Listīack on Monday 30 November 2015 the BBC announced the Long List for the Sound of 2016. This makes it the song, with the oldest origins, that I currently know of (in non-classical contemporary popular music). Although the song, as we know it today, comes form the America, it’s origins are believed to go back to 18th century London and an English folk song called “The Unfortunate Rake”. There is also the performance, by Tom Jones and Rhiannon Giddens, of the song “St. So strictly speaking that is a “drum duo”, and not a “drum solo”.) Fortunately in this case it only lasted 10 seconds. Then a little later on in the video (at 2 minutes 32 seconds) there is a drum solo. Slightly annoyingly, in the Paul Weller/”White Sky” video, Vic Reeves walks into shot (on the right at 2 minutes 17 seconds). I’m not sure whether the problem is that others are blind to how good he is, or that Jeff hasn’t effectively demonstrated how good he is. I was impressed by all three of these performances.Īlthough Jeff Beck has a good reputation, I do think he should have a reputation that is much better then just “good”. Performances by James Bay (“Proud Mary”), Hozier (“Domino”), Beth Hart & Jeff Beck (“Tell Her You Belong To Me”), and Paul Weller (“White Sky” are below. ♦ The Pipes and Drums of 1st Battalion Scots Guards ♦ Rhiannon Giddens (of the band the Carolina Chocolate Drops) ♦ Pauline Black & Arthur ‘Gaps’ Hendrickson (of the band The Selecter) ♦ Jools Holland’s Rhythm and Blues Orchestra I imagine one of the problems they have is who is actually available during those weeks. Although they pretend it’s live on New Year’s Eve, it’s actually recorded on a day somewhen in the weeks just before Christmas. But, overall, possible not as good as some previous years. The most recent edition (the 23rd, broadcast 31 December 2015, New Year’s Eve, on BBC2) had some good performances. So I also like to watch the BBC’s Jools’ Annual Hootenanny television programme. I’m a fan of the BBC’s Later… With Jools Holland television programme. ![]()
